One-on-one support for your sleep therapy

There is no quick fix for sleep apnoea. Your treatment will require persistence and commitment on your part to achieve more restful nights and more active and rewarding days.

Your therapist will provide you with independent advice and one-on-one support to help you remain on your sleep fitness program and continue your sleep apnoea therapy. Depending on the setup in your local area, we can provide face-to-face interaction, therapy and product information, patient instructions (products, hygiene, safety, training), as well as compliance checks.

In addition to symptomatic treatment, you’ll probably want to think about making some adjustments to your lifestyle.

Follow some simple lifestyle rules

  • Follow a regular bedtime routine.
  • Make sure your bedding is comfortable.
  • Air your bedroom every day.
  • Avoid heavy evening meals, avoid also going to bed with a completely empty stomach.
  • Try not to drink alcoholic beverages prior to sleep.
  • Try not to have a hot bath before going to bed.
  • Try not to fall asleep in front of the TV, this could make it difficult to fall asleep again in bed.
  • Losing weight may also help.

Regular, moderate physical exercise (but not late in the evening) is always helpful to improve wellbeing.

Alcohol and sedatives (tranquilizers) can aggravate obstructive sleep apnoea.

Share your experiences

“I spent my first couple of weeks getting used to the CPAP machine. Even though I was not sleeping soundly, my energy levels increased noticeably. My LISA™ therapist was a wonderful surprise, providing me with suggestions and alternatives until we got it just right for me.”

That’s what a BOC Healthcare patient has to say about sleep apnoea treatment and her experiences with LISA™. See some more patient stories below.

“My CPAP therapy has been hassle free. I was unsure what to expect with the therapy. The six-week trial was a good opportunity to become familiar with the equipment. My LISA™ therapist was very accommodating, with all appointment times and adjustments, and basically dispelling any anxiety I had.” A BOC Healthcare patient in Australia.

“In my times of need, I have always been able to rely on LISA™ for the highest levels of professionalism, support and availability. Just the right therapy for me.” A Linde Healthcare patient in Portugal.

“The therapy was difficult at first and it took me the full trial period to get used to it, but lately I’ve noticed that I feel so much better when I wake up and my concentration has improved at work as well. It was good to have LISA™.” A BOC Healthcare patient in Australia.

Face your setbacks

Treatment may cause some side effects such as dry or stuffy nose, irritation of the skin on your face, bloating of your stomach, sore eyes or headaches.

If you are having trouble with the side effects of CPAP, you and your LISA™ therapist can work together to try and eliminate these. Adjustments might include, among others:

  • Using nasal spray to relieve a dry, stuffy or runny nose.
  • Adjusting the CPAP settings in agreement with the prescribing physician.
  • Adjusting the size/fit of the mask.
  • Adjusting moisture to the air as it flows through the mask.
  • Using a CPAP device that can automatically adjust the amount of air pressure to the level that is strictly required to keep the airway open.
  • Using a CPAP device that will start with a low air pressure and slowly increase the air pressure as you fall asleep.
